motherboxing:

not to be all *30something activist voice* kids today but @ kids today: if you are planning a direct action that you know is like… illegal… and that you have reason to suspect may draw police/state violence in response… it is usually a bad idea to signal boost that shit on tumblr to find participants. Security culture isn’t just leftist paranoia. Take it from someone who has like, done organizing under state surveillance (as in, cops tapped my phone, friends of mine were approached and pressured to become informants on our activities, etc): keep your direct action shit off social media until it is actually happening/has happened. If you need bodies, get involved with local orgs. See if you have a chapter of No One Is Illegal nearby, or an equivalent group, and reach out to them securely. And DON’T MAKE JOKES ABOUT BRINGING WEED TO YOUR DIRECT ACTION SHIT? IN PUBLIC?? PLEASE I am not trying to be obnoxious I just don’t want to see any of you guys end up in prison. I know what cops can do, will do, and have done to organizers, including people I know. Just because the right carries on about their shit on twitter all day with no serious consequences doesn’t mean that leftist activists are afforded the same courtesy!
